Toryglen report Community team - Kai, Robbi, Jayden, Kieran, Rory and Rio Vs Charlie Millar A (0-4) Vs Drumsagard C (0-1) Vs Kilbowie B (0-1) Vs Cambuslang B (1-3) The boys started the first 2 games off very slowly, especially in the first game were they lost some very quick goals. I think we will need to get the energy drinks out for next week, to make sure there all ready to go. I compared the results the boys got today against that of last sunday, and they are very similar. In the last 8 games the boys have lost 4 of them (0-1) when you think about it, no wonder we feel a little frustrated. As the boys are not far off the standard that is required. Throughout all the games the boys worked very hard and defended relatively well in most games. We lacked a threat at times but this will come in time. It was great to see Robbi use what we taught him in training in the game today ( speaking to his fellow defenders). He is also becoming more and more involved in the games and made some very good tackles. We also reminded Robbi to clear the ball when needed rather than roll it back in front of goal. Kai was a new player today, his work rate (especially when playing striker was amazing. His presence put the opposition off and helped the team move the ball forward. Kai needs to remember he doesnt need to stand next to people to get the ball, and to find space rather than take it off his own players. Overall he was a stand out player, we want more of the same :). Rio was another work horse today and again helped the team go forward, however he switched off at times, mainly when the ball was up the other end of the pitch. Rio needs to keep concentrating throughout all the games. Big well done to him for getting the first of many goals this season. Now we are off the mark theres no stopping us :). Rory is like Jackyl and Hyde, play him at the back and he great, however play him anywhere else and he goes into his shell. This is not due his understanding of the game, as he knows his stuff, we will have to just beat it out of him….well beat him with sweeties or something. I was impressed with Kieran today with his tackling and pressing which shows he was listening at training. However at times he watches the game happening around him and needs to keep getting involved. Jayden needs to keep his work rate up which is great for the team, but needs to bring the ball out from the back rather than kicking it away to the opposition. Overall the boys deserved to win 2 of 4 games today, but in football it doesnt work like that as we all know. With everyone switching on from the first whistle and defending effectively we will begin to turn these close games into arsenal wins. It will take a bit more time with the boys but progress is going in the right direction. Performance team- John, Jamie, Caiden, Brandon and Aiden Vs Kilbowie A (5-0) Vs Rangers A (3-0) Vs NGU Milan (5-0) Vs Cambuslang A (4-2) To sum up the day for these boys would be very simple - it was simply the best performance we have seen from them all and it was one of the best performances Ive seen at this age group. Now I have boosted all their heads to popping level (and nearly as big as mine) here is the critical analysis - im going all sky sports on your faces. The performance wasnt perfect and the boys gave away 2 slack goals in the last game. Arguably the first goal shouldnt have counted, however the boys cannot switch off and must expect something to happen. So from kick Ins, corners, goal kicks and restarts they must be ready for whatever the opposition throw at them. The second goal came from a good run by Brandon, who nearly scored but gave the ball away to the opposition. As he was the last defender - in a striker position, the opposition broke quickly and had a tap in. For any boy in the defender position they need to realise they must be our last man and get back into position. It was a learning curve for Brandon, however it can be confusing when Im shouting at him to push up but also defend. What we are looking for, is the defender ( when we have the ball) to become a sitting midfielder, and able to spray the ball from wing to wing. If the defender goes forward, another midfielder must be able to sit in as cover. This kind of game play is way beyond there years, but shows the level the boys have attained. Jamie and John needs to work on recognising when we have control of the ball, they must get wide. This is to help create space for themselves and allow switches of play. All the boys in front of goal were very good today but I want them all to realise 2 things -a) we are a team, so dont worry about who scores as long as the team scores and, b) relax in front of goal and if you miss, no one cares at least you tried. I do not want anyone to be bothered if they miss an opportunity. Just create the team another :). We will focus on in the coming weeks, switching of play and the defender becoming a sitting midfielder and getting them involved in the play. Finally I have the biggest smile on my face possible, I know all the coaches do. A massive well done to everyone, we look forward to seeing you all at training and remember this game is done lets do even better next week.
