Totally Revealing July 31 /2013 Scripture reading: Job 2:9-10 [Job’s] wife said to him, “Are you still holding on to your integrity? Curse God and die!” He replied, “You are talking like a foolish woman. Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?” In all this, Job did not sin in what he said." (Job 2:9-10) Remember the last time you had a horrible, no-good, terrible, very bad day? We’re talking about the kind of day that starts out bad and goes downhill from there. You sleep through your alarm and wake up to your mom yelling that you’re late for school. You barely make it to class, and then you realize your shirt’s inside out, and you have a huge zit on your nose. Your first class starts with a pop quiz on the chapter you forgot to read last night. That’s when you realize that you just started your period. And it’s not even 9 a.m. yet. Well, Job could beat you in a “bad day” contest, no question. In a single day, invaders stole all his wealth, and a house collapsed and killed all 10 of his children. To top it off, he was then covered with painful sores from the soles of his feet to the top of his head. Talk about a really, really bad day. But you know, hard times have a way of revealing a person’s character. When hardship hit her family, Job’s wife responded badly. She lost sight of God, was overwhelmed by the pain, and revealed her wimpy faith. In contrast, Job responded with integrity. He chose to trust God in the hard times just as he had in the good times. His response revealed the depth of his faith and the strength of his convictions. What about you? When trouble comes your way, what will your response reveal about your character? Will others see in you a shallow love for God and a weak faith? Or will they see a deep love for God and a strong faith that trusts in him? READ MORE OF WHAT HAPPENED TO JOB AND HIS RESPONSE IN JOB 1:13-22 AND 2:7-10. ~ God, I want to be like Job—not like Job’s wife. I want trouble to reveal a genuine, deep faith in you and love that’s strong and real. Deepen my faith and strengthen my love for you...Amen! ~
