Totally blown away by whats happening in Brampton City Council. Corporate credit cards, expense accounts and 1/3 tax free salaries? I remember back in 97 when the council was part time and the salary was 47k per year. Now they are one of if not the top paid council in Canada. Now they have legal opinion that its wrong not to accept a pay increase. Since being elected to Milton Town Council I havent accepted a pay increase as I feel very no matter how small the amount its wrong for politicians to raise their pay. We go to conferences and have per diems etc for them. Whenever I go on a trip funded by taxpayers I claim as little as possible. Why? Because its taxpayers money. Back in Brampton, they can use taxpayers money to pay for hospital and other fundraisers while Milton Town Councillors use their own money for fundraising. Thats what the 1/3 tax free salary is for. We dont have expense accounts at all. We pay our own way. Brampton Council has expense accounts and many of them seem to have lost their way. Its taxpayers money. You CANT forget that. Just incredible. Car allowances and limo rides and some today during their meeting tried to justify it. One councillor said to just apologize and pay the money back. Best advice given.
