Tough Day saying Farewell for now to My Great Uncle DON- Lots of Tears were spilt, Heads lifted towards the Heavens, Amens and Hallelujahs said to celebrate this mans Life- so proud of allmy loving family through this tough Loss of such a kind Gentle Man and Soul....here is a glimpse of My Uncle Don through his Obituary..... and you can see for yourself what an amazing man he is.... #rip #itsohardtosaygoodbye Donald L. Turner was born March 5th, 1930 in Chanute, Kansas. Don Graduated from Chanute Sr. High School and Chanute Jr. College(Neosho County Now) receiving an Associates of Arts Degree. In 1949 Don broke the COLOR BARRIER in the sport of basketball by becoming the first African American accepted to participate in the athletic program at Neosho County Jr. College. Additionally, he was an outstanding athlete who enjoyed the sport of golf. He never missed the opportunity to visit his hometown on Memorial Day. He worked for the railroad. He retired from the U.S. Post Office after working 47 years. Don served in the Korean War with the U.S. Air Force from 1950- 1954 where he received an honorable discharge. Don confessed his belief in Christ at a young age at Grant Chapel AME church in Chanute, Ks. He moved to Kansas City, Missouri and joined Bowers Memorial CME. Later in life he joined Power Shift Worship Center in 2012 under the leadership of Pastor Yolanda Roseby. March 22nd, 1959 Don took Sue Fords hand in Holy Matrimony. To their union one child was born Deborah Maxine Turner. Don was preceded in death by his father and mother, Ben and Grace Turner, his brothers; Charles Turner and Harold W. Turner Sr.,and his lovely wife of 48 years Mary Sue Turner. He will be sadly missed. youtu.be/VastXQ_hPb0
