Tour Diary - Day 32 Couldn’t sleep last night. When I got - TopicsExpress

Tour Diary - Day 32 Couldn’t sleep last night. When I got back to my hotel after the show in Montreal, I had so much on my mind. First, there was the show itself. It almost killed me. I had to dig deep. Katie (my singer) and Brandon (my tour manager) both said it might have been the best of the tour. I was too locked in to know. I can barely remember it. I laid there in bed, trying to remember what happened, but I couldn’t. That’s a weird and almost scary feeling. I got totally lost, which I guess is the goal. But it’s freaky when a few hours of your life are lost in your memory. Second, I watched a documentary on a TV show called The Fifth Estate that disturbed me deeply. Heard some things that are hard to shake. Third, my next stop is Halifax and I’m going to see my little nieces. I’m terribly excited about that. I wish I could see them much more often. Fourth, the news I read online when I got back to the hotel. After a few hours of lying in bed, after each competing thought was catalogued and temporarily put to rest, it was this news that finally plagued my sleep. It was unshakeable from my mind: one of my top five favorite baseball players has been traded to the team in the city where I live. Josh Donaldson is now the third baseman for the Toronto Blue Jays. I can’t believe it. I can’t believe it. You know, it’s a bad imitation, but the haircut I’m rocking on this tour is inspired by Josh Donaldson. It’s a tribute to him. That’s how much I love Josh Donaldson. And now we have the same home city. I can’t believe I’m going to have the chance to see him play up close on a regular basis now. This changes things. My unsleeping mind was fitful with imaginings of Josh Donaldson and I becoming friends and playing catch on off days and riding bikes around town and eating hamburgers and talking about girls. Josh Donaldson! I can’t believe it. I honestly can’t believe it. Even if the trade didn’t evolve Toronto, I would have been shocked. I thought he’d play in Oakland for his entire career. Or at least until the end of his current contract. Now his home is Toronto. He instantly makes the Blue Jays a much stronger team for 2015. I guess I have to start thinking about season’s tickets now. Josh friggin’ Donaldson.
