Algeria +53.57 Even with rain and wind the race averaged 45kph today. Despite this pace, attacks were strong and frequent. Kenya was involved from the start, initiating attacks, entering breakaways and pulling the chase pack. Tom and Mwangi got into a convincing break before halfway, building a 2.35s gap. MTN eventually took control of the peloton and dragged it to the break. Attacks continued and Kipchumba was the first to fade, followed by Ariko, who did great work early on. Tom came back next but was still moving well. After Mwangi dropped he noticed Njoroge falling back towards him. He had been hit by another rider and lost his chain. Mwangi fired up and dragged Njoroge back to the lead group (including all the leading GC contenders). Due to Mwangis effort, Njoroge finished just 10-seconds behind the leader. The Kenyans have been watched very closely on this tour and have not been able to get away with as much as last year. I guess this is flattering, but we need to find a way to target victories ... and we will.
