Touring the Tropics... Remnants of Simon are bringing tropical rains to the Desert Southwestern U.S. today, and the potential for more flooding exists once again. The disturbance from the Western Caribbean has actually migrated across Central America, and has emerged as a small chance for development now in the Pacific off the coast of Nicaragua. Conditions do look favorable for this system over the long haul to develop into another named storm for the over active Pacific Season. But in the meantime heavy rains are persistent across Central America. Just east of San Juan and northeast of the Northern Leeward Islands in the Atlantic is a cluster of thunderstorms currently disorganized with respect to tropical systems. But low wind shear, warm waters, and not much dry air are allowing the potential for this system to show development by the late weekend. NHC thinks we may see a depression or subtropical depression form by the weekend as well. Scattered convection continues well back to the east associated with this elongated upper level low. The ITCZ and African coast are not showing much more than scattered thunderstorms.
