Tournament Corner: Champions Cup Rawalpindi: Saints-Comebackers 2-1 Rookies F.C (Quarter-finale) Red-Devils’ bad boy Faizan Sameer Jaanu was recruited into the squad of the Whites as the People’s club prepared for the last eight battle. The merged team moved into the last five of the Champions Cup Rawalpindi after a mixed performance against a very strong opposition, winning it 2-1 at the final whistle. Saints Comebackers came up against a team who could out-run any team in the city and the high tempo of their game never let the Whites settle into the game. The Islamabad team broke the deadlock midway through the first half after Nani grabbed a brilliant glancing header goal, turning a clearance from his own keeper into the back of the oppositions net; very lucky indeed. Another Comebackers boy Adeel doubled the lead with literally his first touch since coming on, 2-0 to the good and a very fine finish indeed. Half-time. The second half was a tale of just “any-where-will-do”, as Rookies blew life into the game, scoring from a set-piece; game-on. Saints-Comebackers however held on the narrow advantage as superb defense from Talha and Ali Abbasi prevented the opposition from restoring parity. 2-0 it finished. MOTM: Mohammad Ali Abbasi
