Town Council will hold its next general meeting on Tuesday, August 12 at 7:30pm. Here are some of the agenda highlights: PUBLIC HEARING Public Hearing for Zoning Bylaw Amendment No. 14-05 (rezoning to allow the relocation of the BV Child Development Centre to 1471 Columbia Drive, former home of the Christian Reformed Church). BV SOCCER Council decision on whether to prioritize the field upgrades proposed by the Bulkley Valley Soccer Society. MINISTRY OF FORESTS AIRPORT LEASE Report regarding the Unit Crew Base and Tanker Base lease agreements between the Town and the Ministry of Forests, Land and Natural Resource Operations for Airport land. ACAP RUNWAY SWEEPER, TRUCK AND PLOW Reports recommending signing of Financial Assistance Agreements under the Airports Capital Assistance Program (ACAP). These agreements will allow us to purchase a new runway sweeper, plow truck and plow for the airport. Great news! AIRPORT CAPITAL PAVING Report recommending award of the 2014 Airport capital paving contract to LB Paving. ACAP LOADER & PLOW Report recommending purchase of a John Deere loader and Gjerstad ramp plow from Brant Tractor, with the 1989 John Deere Loader as a trade-in. RED BRICK SIDEWALK REPAIR Report recommending award of the Red Brick Sidewalk Repairs Contract to Canyon Creek Company of Smithers for $143,463.50. STEEL BUILDINGS Report recommending amendments to the capital budget to purchase three pre-engineered steel structures to be used for salt/sand storage, fire equipment storage, and an Airport equipment /maintenance shop. CENTRAL PARK BUILDING UPGRADES Report recommending approval of changes to the Central Park Building Societys original window upgrade proposal. REGIONAL DISTRICT RURAL OFFICIAL COMMUNITY PLAN Report recommending Council support the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechakos new Smithers Telkwa Rural Official Community Plan, as presented. PRINCESS ST. WATERMAIN Report recommending amending the Capital Plan and awarding the Princess Street Watermain Looping contract to Canyon Contracting Company. NEW ARENA SUBSTANTIAL PERFORMANCE Report recommending signing of a Change Order to extend the New Arena Design-Build Contract substantial performance date to October 31, 2014, and associated penalty. TEXT AMENDMENT OPTIONS - BYLAW 1754 Report presenting text amendment options for Child Development Centre (Topic of public hearing earlier in the meeting). TRAFFIC CONTROL ORDERS Report regarding Traffic Control Orders for 3-Way and 4-Way Stops on the Frontage Roads and the intersection of Queen Street and Third Avenue. NORTHERN HEALTH BIKE RACKS Letter Cormack Hikisch requesting Bike Smithers bike racks to place at the Bulkley Valley District Hospital and Bulkley Lodge. REGIONAL DISTRICT INDUSTRIAL LEGACY Letter from the Regional District requesting Council make a formal resolution in support of the Industrial Legacy Project, in order to allow Town Staff to provide input regarding infrastructure and community needs to the Consultant for the business case for long-term funding. BOVILL SQUARE BENCHES Letter from the 2013 Centennial Committee Treasurer presenting a cheque, with the recommendation that the funds be used to acquire benches for Bovill Square.
