RECREATION SEASONAL WORKER Position Purpose: The purpose of this position is to perform seasonal recreation work in assisting with programs for a comprehensive indoor and outdoor community recreational program for all Town residents; all other related work as required. Supervision: Works under the day-to-day supervision of program supervisor. Performs functions requiring some judgment in achieving operational objectives. Job Environment: Duties are performed primarily outdoors, with some work inside buildings. Exposure to heat, humidity during summer months; flexibility required to work unfilled shifts, as needed. Makes frequent contact with the general public. Errors could result in inefficient operations, damage to equipment, injury to self and the public, monetary loss, and adverse public relations. Essential Functions: (The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. May serve in any of the following seasonal worker capacities with specific activity tasks assigned: Summer Recreation Assistant Director, Lead Arts and Crafts Summer Recreation Counselor, Lead Sports Summer Recreation Counselor, or Summer Recreational Counselor. Participates in instruction of recreation classes and programs in a participatory manner. Assists with developing programming as needed. Creates schedules. May serve as recreation counselor or recreation counsel leader. Coordinates group activities for all ages. Assists with setting out all related operational equipment and properly securing Town facility at end of day; helps clean and maintain buildings and grounds daily, gathering and removing trash, cleaning tables and areas, as may be required following program. Responsible for verifying attendance of walk-ins, issuing guest passes, collect appropriate fees. Ensures safety procedures are followed. Performs all other related work as required or directed. Recommended Minimum Qualifications: Education and Experience: Completed Freshman year of high school and possess a valid work permit; one year of experience relating to facility maintenance and upkeep; some experience working with the general public preferred; some experience working with children preferred; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Requirements: CORI check and review required CPR and First Aid Knowledge, Ability and Skill: Knowledge. General knowledge of recreation programs and activities. Ability. Ability to communicate tactfully, courteously, and effectively. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public. Skill. Skills in interacting positively with the general public; skills in dispute management. Job Description-Lead Arts and Crafts Summer Recreation Counselor Town of Townsend In addition to the duties included in the job description for Summer Recreation Counselor, You will be responsible for the following: • You will design and schedule daily Arts & Craft projects. Your weekly schedule of projects is to be handed in to the Summer Recreation Assistant Director, for approval, one week in advance. You will oversee the daily arts and crafts projects. Two projects will be created for each day; one lead by you and one lead by a Summer Counselor. You will make certain that the counselor is prepared to lead their project. • You will teach the children how to create their project and maintain control of the process. You will be responsible to promote sharing, creativity and accomplishment. • You will be responsible for maintaining the orderliness and cleanliness of each work station and the supply area. • You will teach staff how to lead their project, conduct activities and maintain needed supplies. • You will be responsible to expand the summer program, by implementing new and creative activities. • You will be responsible to plan, and lead 1 day of special activities, to be assigned by the Summer Recreation Assistant Director and/or Recreation Director. • You will make sure that all supplies are available for the given task. • You will be responsible to compile a list of requested supplies at the end of the summer program, for the following year, and give it to the Recreation Director. • Your immediate Supervisor is the Summer Recreation Assistant Director. • You will be responsible for other tasks as assigned by the Recreation Director. Job Description-Lead Sports Summer Recreation Counselor Town of Townsend In addition to the duties included in the job description for Summer Recreation Counselor, you will be responsible for the following: Your immediate supervisor will be the Summer Recreation Assistant Director. • You will oversee the daily sports activities. Activities should be held outside whenever possible. • You will plan and schedule daily Sports & Physical activities. Your weekly schedule of plans is to be handed in to the Summer Recreation Assistant Director, for approval, one week in advance. You will oversee the daily sports & activities. Two activities will be created for each day; one lead by you and one lead by a Summer Counselor. You will make certain that the counselor is prepared to lead their activity. • You will teach the children how to do the activity and what the rules are . You will focus activities on promoting good sportsmanship, teamwork and safety. • You will make sure that all equipment is available for the activity. • You will be responsible for maintaining the orderliness and cleanliness of your activity areas and the equipment area. • You will teach staff how to lead their activity and maintain needed equipment. • You will be responsible to expand the summer program, by implementing new and creative activities. • You will be responsible to plan, and lead 1 day of special activities, to be assigned by the Summer Recreation Assistant Director and/or Recreation Director. • You will be responsible to compile a list of requested supplies at the end of the summer program, for the following year, and give it to the Recreation Director. • Your immediate Supervisor is the Summer Recreation Assistant Director. • You will be responsible for other tasks as assigned by the Recreation Director.
