Traces of Texas reader Greg Snell was nice enough to send in these two photos of his grandmother, Pearl Percell, which were taken in Waco. In the first photo she is the third switchboard operator from the left. The portrait is dated Marcy 19th, 1899 and Greg believes that the switchboard photo was taken about that same time. She was a lovely lady and Im glad to see her smiling in the portrait, not only because she has a nice smile but because it helps debunk the oft-repeated myth that exposure times were too long to capture smiles back then. Thank you, Greg! These are both great shots!
