Tractor-trailer hits bus full of children on I-81 Published: July 26, 2013 A Hometown-based tractor-trailer hit the back of a bus carrying children on Interstate 81 on Friday morning. The crash happened near the Luzerne-Schuylkill County line. About 25 children on the bus suffered minor injuries when the Fox Transportation tractor-trailer rear-ended the bus near Exit 141 Southbound. The children attend the Hazleton YMCA summer program. At least one child was air-lifted to Geisinger Medical Center at Danville for a head injury. Other children were taken to Hazleton General Hospital for evaluation; doctors and nurses set up a triage area inside the bus, then used a wheelchair to transport them, one-by-one, inside the hospital. The crash occurred about 10:15 a.m., and the southbound lanes of the highway had been shut down for at least an hour. Dozens of ambulances were called out the scene. As of 12:45 p.m., both lanes were open.
