Trade Development Intern South African Consulate General in Chicago The Trade Development Intern at the South African Consulate General in Chicago performs various duties to support the Consul Economic in facilitating trade between the Midwest and South Africa. The intern’s key duty will be market research, and he or she will be consistently exposed to a wide range of American and South African industries. Past market research projects have involved the horse racing industry in United States, the coal-to-oil industry in South Africa and the automotive industry in both countries. The position also includes a variety of other tasks, including identifying and contacting key figures in the Consulate’s target industries and regions and writing thorough market reports for the Marketing Officer and the Consul Economic. The position requires creativity, responsibility and the ability to work independently and efficiently. The intern will report to the Marketing Officer with frequent interaction with the Consul Economic, and he or she will be exposed to various aspects of a wide range of industries. The intern will also get to experience the inner workings of a diplomatic mission and become part of the Consular family. Ideally we are looking for an intern that is technologically savvy and has some website maintenance experience as well.
