Traders Village Indian Pow Wow set for September 7 – 9 A two and half day Native American Pow Wow with colorful tribal dance contests, an arts & crafts show, teepees, visiting with old friends, making new ones, honoring ceremonies, singing and much more will be part of the 50th Annual National Championship Indian Pow Wow that takes place at Traders Village, September 7 - 9. Schedule for the contests that will be in the Indian Dance Arena on the west side of the market and is presented by the DFW Inter-Tribal Association: Friday - 8:00 p.m. to midnight Saturday - Noon to 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. - midnight Sunday - 1:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Several hundred Native Americans, representing dozens of tribes from across the United States, will take part in this celebration of their culture and heritage. The drums will beat for the dancers in full regalia of feathers, buckskin, bells and beadwork competing for prize money and awards in eighteen different dance categories. Spectators will be amazed by the precision and showmanship that even the youngest competitors display in their dancing. Participants will range in age from two-year old toddlers to grandmothers in their 80s. Artists, craftsmen and traders from all over the country will showcase their wares and talents at the Arts & Crafts Show and Sale, under the giant Green Expo building, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. each day. The Indian food booth will serve authentic Native American foods all weekend long. Everyone, spectators and competitors alike, can enjoy authentic Native American fry bread, Indian tacos and more. The Teepee Village will provide visitors with a close-up look at life with this age-old form of portable shelter. Come wander through this true-to-life experience of days gone by. There is no admission charge to Traders Village, all events are free and parking is $3.00. The market is located at 2602 Mayfield Road.
