Traders of Cloth The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “If the people of the Garden had traded, they would have traded in cloth.” [Abu Yala] The people of Jannah (the Garden) are provided graciously for by their Lord and they do not need to make any effort to obtain their sustenance in Paradise. However, the desirability of trading in cloth, above all other professions, is shown by the fact that if the people in Jannah were to engage in trade they would be clothes merchants. Independently doing business is the preferred occupation for Muslims and this Hadith indicates the blessedness of trading in cloth. Many auspicious people of the Ummah were textile merchants. Imam Abu Hanifah was a trader by profession and he used to deal in cloth.
