Traditional African dance is NOT evil and its good to know many globally especially in Europe have now discovered that unlike in the past with some missionaries who might have been attempting to compare it to classical ballet or foot-tapping folk dance. They eyed some traditional dances suspiciously because they were spiritual and a means to access the other world. For healers there was a certain place where the spirit would possess them and then speak through them after performing a sacred dance. Today that rarely happens as some of the ancient dances have been commercialized and its original meaning lost as its done for entertainment or praising politicians but the fact remains that now dancing is also done in some religious circles. Lets celebrate this FACT by saluting all ancient dances on this continent including Malawi. The Lomwe [Lhomwe] People The Lomwe (type of soil) people entered Malawi at the end of the nineteenth century. They came from the Eastern (Mozambique) side of Lake Chirwa and Mount Mulanje in the upper Lujenda River at a place called Monguru. They also occupied the area around Namuli Hill in North West of Mozambique. In this Lomwe land, the name Lomwe at the expense of Nguru which has derogatory connotations. It should however be noted that the word Lomwe is a blanket term which covers many sub-ethnic groups of the Lomwe, and these are; Amihavani Amarenje Amanyawa Anahito Muhipiti Nyamwelo Lolo Malokotera Meeto Makuwa Takhwani Likukhu Mihekeni Khokhola wawamalawi/cultures/lomwe.php
