#TrafficKZN #Strike #RIOT : Public Servant News Network KwaZulu Natal: Merylene Chitharai: Public Servant News Network KwaZulu Natal: There was more taxi drama in town today, took 2hrs to get home, taxis were rare! Metro polices were all over the place arresting troublemakers, saw a metro cop running with a baseball bat at the esplanade! Drivers were throwing stones at taxis that were operating, a lot of commuters were left stranded and saw gangs rallying in various parts of town! Tomorrow it is planned to be worse! I received this post Posted on Facebook, by a Director at Metropolitan Police at about 19H30 on 16 July 2014 - - To all my contacts, colleagues and friends, be aware of this please, be wary tomorrow Dear Sir, following our discussion: Members of the KZNTA and Qina Mshayeli are planning to block all access routes into Durban CBD tomorrow morning 17 July 2014 from 04:30am. They want to demonstrate ongoing disgruntlement with what they term harassment by Durban Metro Police, issuing of traffic fines and their apparent exclusion from the planned Dbn Integrated Public Transport Network plan/BRT. These are the same grievances raised in memo handed to City in mid June 2014 during protest march which had turned violent after the memo was handed over and had brought traffic to standstill in CBD and working taxi drivers attacked/intimidated. Saps was advised to highten deployment at all access routes into CBD. Also possible taxi violence expected at smith street taxi rank, just be aware please, saps and metro police deploying accordingly, this is a message for your safety please
