Trainee Nun Raped Baliguda : 17/July/2013 It may be a rare case in the history of crimes in Odisha. Though there are instances of relatives killing one another, here is a case where a blood relation organized gang rape on a 28-year-old woman undergoing nun’s training at St. Mary Convent in Chennai. The victim was told over by her cousin sister (elder father’s daughter) that she should be back in home as her mother was serious. When the trainee nun arrives at Berhampur railway station, she was received by her cousin brother. The cousin brother kidnaps, drugged her before raping along with two others. Her sister knows everything and helped her brother to rape the cousin. The incident has taken place at a village under Brahmanigaon police station area in Kandhamal district. The victim after one week’s ordeal dropped at the same Berhampur railway station and told to return Chennai. She was also threatened not to disclose the matter to anyone. The victim, however, returned to village and reported matter to Brahamnigaon police. Thanks to the initiative of a bright young top cop Kanwar Vishal Singh, SDPO Baliguda, the Police lodged the FIR at Brahmanigaon police station even as the incident took place at other places A case was registered - Bamunigaon PS (case no 10 dated 13.07.2013: reported at 9PM) . U/S 355, 366, 343, 376-D/506, 120(b), revealed a senior Police Officer. Meanwhile, the police arrested Jotindra Sabhasunder (cousin brother) , Tukuma Sabhasundhar and Nalini Sabasunder (cousin sister) . All the accused persons were residents of the victim’s Minzapanka village. All accused persons are siblings Incidentally,investigation revealed that the victim trainee nun’s brother was co-accused in murder of Jotindra’s father in 2011. Medical examination of victim and all accused persons has been done. Other Legal procedure is being followed, said the police officer. All accused persons were arrested after conducting repeated raids, based on various intelligence inputs, and with help of neighboring Gajapati Police, as and when required. The incident was closely monitored by DIG Southern Range Amitabh Thakur and timely advise of the DIG has helped the Baliguda Police to take timely action. “We will charge sheet case as soon as possible and ensure conviction based on the evidence,” Dr. Singh said.
