Trainer tip: if youve started running or walking outside and are getting shin splints, a very common affliction, here are a few tips to help you recover and get back on the road: 1. Make sure youre wearing good shoes. If your shoes are worn out or not made for running, they arent supporting your feet properly. Go to a good running store to get your gait assessed. 2. Rest and ice your shins. Do active recovery by biking or swimming instead of walking or running. 3. Wear calf sleeves, a compression sleeve that prevents excessive movement of your muscles. You can find them at running stores. 4. Consider an arch support like SuperFeet. Also find them at running stores. 5. Stretch your calves before, during, and after your exercise! Hold stretches for at least 30 seconds.
