Trainers, do you want new clients? Today, stand by the lat - TopicsExpress

Trainers, do you want new clients? Today, stand by the lat pulldown machine and watch for behind the neck movements! If you’ve been following our daily posts, do you recall that the single exercise responsible for rotator cuff damage has been the bench press? What would you guess to be the exercise running a close second? If you want to be painfully ‘entertained’ just watch what exercisers do at the lat pull down (cable) machine. Do you agree that behind the neck lat pull downs are responsible for impingement and rotator cuff injuries? If so, how and why? Recall that the shoulder joint has the potential to rotate an entire 360 degrees in range of motion. This makes it especially vulnerable to instability, and therefore, injuries. When designing your client’s programming, it’s important to avoid over-training the shoulders— front, back, and medial. So pay attention to heavy back and chest days, for example. To prevent risk of injury, we suggest adequately warming up those rotator cuff muscles using light resistance. Also, it’s wise to add mobility and stability exercises for clients who lack shoulder awareness. Be sure to look for later posts this week on our suggestion on how to address this with a potential client. And if you havent done so already, visit our website and sign up for our monthly newsletter for more on accountability and client retention. Train hard and keep living out your passion!
