Trainers, why fit in when you could stand out? Could you be progressing your clients too quickly? As trainers, we are facilitators, motivators, coaches. We always want to inspire our clients and to make a difference. We want to always keep it fun and fresh, to keep our clients on a motivated path. Did you know that one of the most common mistakes trainers make is progressing clients too quickly? We suggest that before you plunge client into new exercises, to always ask about the WHY. What is the purpose behind the movement? You may have already noticed a common scenario in most gym settings: Grandma Betty performing burpees, for example. Also, why would you have a 50 plus year old person with joint issues lunging across the room while performing shoulder presses? And why is a 70 year old pushing a sled stacked with 45 pound plates across the gym floor? Ask: How would a burpee be useful in a real life situation? Ask: What is my clients real longterm goal, and which exercises are best to support these goals? Ask: Why utilize CrossFit and other high intensity programming? Ask: Why progress to a single arm push-up when the client cannot maintain neutral spine in a standard push-up? Ask: Why add more weight to a bench press when a client is working around a rotator cuff issue? In training intelligently, look for an NAFC quiz this week for more on this topic and be sure to learn about on our ANSER protocols for ensured safety and effective training. See you soon for more on increasing lean body mass, healing and recovery. Enjoy a Motivated Wednesday!
