Training & Development Manager HITACHI RAIL EUROPE LIMITED - Newton Aycliffe Following the success of our Javelin trains and the recent Intercity Express Programme contract award, we are going from strength to strength. Building on a proud North East history in the rail industry and a global reputation for quality, reliability, innovation, design and technological leadership, Hitachi Rail Europe is committed to the long-term development of a strong rail and infrastructure industry in the UK and Europe. Our brand new, cutting edge facility in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham will be Hitachi Rail Europe’s primary location for railway vehicle manufacturing. We now want to bring on board a professional Training and Development Manager who will establish the learning and development function and lead the co-ordination of wide ranging training activities across the site. This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role as we prepare to open our facility and bring to life our vision of creating a skilled workforce employed within a genuine learning culture. This role will have a high degree of autonomy, working with functional leaders to establish the processes and competency management systems essential to fulfil our skills pledge to employees, customers and the North East region. Key activities and responsibilities: - Work closely with Manufacturing and Engineering functions on the development and introduction of an effective competency management system. Inspire and support functional leaders in engaging employees and developing a learning culture. Establishing the critical core processes and procedures necessary for a successful learning and development environment. Develop a site Training Plan and budget including assessing the return on investment. Working with departmental managers to understand job roles, conduct training needs analysis and design appropriate training delivery methods. Manage the delivery of training courses, materials, facilities and equipment, maintaining the competencies of all staff, partnering with external organisations where necessary. Lead the development of high quality training materials ensuring they are maintained and up to date. Ensure that all in house trainers and assessors are appropriately qualified and certificated. Develop the training evaluation process in order to ensure that all training activity at the site achieves the aims. Develop and lead the Apprentice scheme. Qualifications A professional qualification in learning and development. Experience of working within a training function in a forward thinking Manufacturing, Engineering or Technical based Organisation. Experience of developing competency management systems including effective verification of skills & knowledge. An excellent track record of developing a genuine Learning Culture Experience of partnering with technical experts across wide range of functions on the design and implementation of technical training programmes. Significant experience of training processes including Training Needs Analysis, solution design and evaluation. The ability to lead and operate effectively in a period of organisational growth and expansion. The ability to work with minimal supervision, setting and achieving clear targets and deliverables, within a tight project environment. Strong interpersonal, influencing and communication skills to all levels. Closing date for applications 23rd January 2015.
