Training Tip #9 - Moving on with injury Everyone gets injured. If you havent, you havent been pushing beyond limits or youre not that exposed to the full package of elements around you. Even countries gets injured. Its precisely because it is exposed and made venerable by its own accord and that is the truth no matter how many reasons we all can put down on the table. But it is thru these injuries that we learn . Injuries in climbing are no different from all the different kinds of injuries. They heal and just like Axle Roses lyrics all it takes is a little patience. Live thru it a while and be brave. The next problem will be that much easier. On the technical side, lets talk about the rotator cuff. Its a prime joint very intrinsic to climbing movement. It joins the arms and the core. It is a weak link. Having an injury in this area reduces movement and the transfer of core strength to the arms. All is not lost though. Climbing thru a rotator cuff injury isnt at all bad provided you are climbing at a high level. You may have already amassed enough engrams that isolate the rotator cuff to certain degrees during climbing. For beginners though and some intermediate climbers, this may not be the case. It is better to take caution and venture to other activities before going back to climbing . What to do when rotator cuff injuries occur? Run, bike, light swim, no hanging... Key is burn off calories and reduce weight. Weight is a huge factor in keeping joints functioning efficiently. Focus on muscular actuation during movement. Muscles take the load off joints but they tire easily, use proper timing and execution. Much can be said about injury and injury prevention. But they do happen. Feel free to ask questions.
