Training puppies to love grooming. Today we had 17 week old Frankie in for her first groom. She has had a pretty rough start and has had her front leg healed after breaking it 6 weeks ago. She was very reactive and nervous at the start of her groom as she has been poked and prodded by vets a lot over the past few weeks, often resulting in pain. So we did some counter conditioning to ensure her experience with grooming is pleasant as she needd to be groomed for the rest of her life. This video shows her accepting clippers over her head and ears. Initially we didnt think we would be able to do her head at all as she was very head shy, jumping away from the clippers, growling and generally quite worried about the clippers. Adjusting our technique to suit her comfort level and offering high value treats (Rogue Royalty Green Tripe!) helped us to desensitise Frankie and do a groom that looked good but also created a pleasant experience for her. Frankies mum has her booked in for grooming every 6 weeks to ensure we can continue our work creating a pleasant, gentle grooming experience. We love our job!
