Tral. A complete shutdown was observed in this South Kashmir area Wednesday against the alleged excesses by the forces following the suspected militant attack on Monday evening. Reports said shops, business establishments and schools remained closed while traffic was off the roads. People also held protest demonstration in Tral, Dadsara and adjoining areas. They alleged that following the attack on Army on Monday evening, the soldiers and Special Operations Group (SOG) of police thrashed people in Dadsara village without any provocation. “Last evening the forces barged into several houses at Dadsara and harassed the villagers,” locals alleged, adding, even women and children were not even spared. People in Dadsara, reports said, organized nocturnal protests. “Public Address Systems of Masjids were used and people were asked to come out of their houses,” reports said. They said the villagers including women and children later came out and amid pro-freedom slogans protested the excesses. The protests continued during the night. “The forces are harassing us on the pretext of providing shelter to the militants,” said an elderly villager. He said the forces last evening “themselves fired several rounds and then harassed us saying militants fired from a residential house.” On Monday evening suspected militants attacked an Army Patrol at Dadsara. The soldiers also retaliated, however, the militants managed to flee under the cover of darkness. The forces later laid cordon and launched search operation. Police, however, refuted the allegations of harassment, saying “some people pelted stones on the police to give safe passage to the militants.” A police official said the allegations of beating up villagers are baseless.
