Transnational grain companies control Ukrainian market Farmers - TopicsExpress

Transnational grain companies control Ukrainian market Farmers have harvested 3.1 million tons of grain in the Odessa region that is 200,000 tons more than last year. Reportedly, the food grain yield accounts for 82% of the harvest. According to Anatoly Novakovskiy, director of the department of agro-industrial development under the Odessa oblast administration, local farmers do not seek to raise the price of grain because they know that in doing so, they would play into the hands of ubiquitous foreign traders. Today about five transnational grain companies are in full control of the Ukrainian market. So, authorities of the Odessa oblast try to achieve mutually acceptable agreements with foreign companies lest the greedy traders should take all the food grain out of this country.
