Transport Minister Danny Kennedy has announced the start of a £1million road improvement scheme for Upper Ballinderry. The works will be carried out by civil engineering contractor Gibson (Banbridge) Ltd and will take up to five months to complete. Danny Kennedy said: “This scheme represents a significant financial investment in the area and will bring substantial benefits for all road users. “The improvements will include a realignment of the Ballinderry Road and provision of right turn pockets on the A26 Glenavy Road for vehicles entering the Ballinderry and Lower Ballinderry Roads. “This much-anticipated scheme will help improve road safety and traffic flow on this busy stretch of road.” Works have been programmed to minimise traffic delays on the busy A26, which links the M1 at Moira to Glenavy and the international airport. Drivers should note, however, that lane restrictions will be in place at off peak times and should allow some extra time for their journeys along this route. Further updates on traffic management restrictions will be advised through the use of variable message signs and through the Traffic Watch NI website trafficwatchni/home
