“Trash, go ahead and take it out” This is the title of a chapter in one of my all-time favorite books, ‘DON’T SWEAT THE SMALL STUFF… and it’s all small stuff’ by Richard Carlson! He explained it like this: “It’s really difficult to become a contented person if you’re keeping score of all you do. Keeping track only discourages you by cluttering your mind with who’s doing what, who’s doing more, and so forth. It will bring you far more joy to your life to know that you have done your part and someone else in your family has one less thing to do, than it will to worry and fret over whose turn it is to take out the trash.” Case in point: Yesterday I wrote that Ember did the dishes even though it wasn’t her turn! What I didn’t mention was that it was really my turn, and usually I would spend the entire day in the kitchen on Sundays between cooking and cleaning, as that’s my day! When I came back that day and met the kitchen clean, it was like I just won the lotto! It was such a good feeling to know I had such a thoughtful ten year old daughter! So now I go out of my way to help her when it’s her turn for dishes and I notice she goes out of her way to help me! Like this morning she thought I was taking my sons out with us today and by the time I exercised and got back home, she had already dressed herself and had the boys in the tub getting them ready to go with us without me asking! Now we’ve gotten Julie involved too (my nine year old), that even when it’s not our day in kitchen, we help each other and the chores are done so much faster and everyone is happier! Who would have thought helping with chores could bring so much more love into our home? We’re here to serve, my guys! I ask God as often as possible, “How may I serve?” and He turns around and asks me, “Nik, how may I serve you?” He’s even helping me to raise my kids! Telling you guys my secrets here! LIVE KINDLY, love extravagantly, forgive quickly, trust God always and LET EVERYTHING YOU DO BE PLEASING TO GOD! WE GO WITH GOD!
