Travel Update from PennDOT: Lane Restriction on Route 6 EB in Towanda, Bradford County Due to the potential instability of buildings damaged by fire in what is known as the Bailey Block in the Borough of Towanda, Bradford County, Route 6 (Main Street) eastbound is restricted to a single lane approaching Veterans Memorial Bridge. The right lane, used to continue from Route 6 east onto Route 2027 south (South Main Street), is closed in front of the Bailey Block until the façade of the buildings can be stabilized. The sidewalk along that section of roadway also is closed. A short section of the right lane of Route 6 is open in front of the borough offices and motorists heading south are asked to remain in the left lane, typically dedicated for eastbound traffic turning left to cross the bridge, until the right lane opens after the fire damaged buildings. Pedestrians impacted by the closure of the sidewalk are advised to use Elizabeth Street, Second Street and Franklin Street. Pedestrians can cross Route 6 at the Elizabeth Street intersection but are advised not to cross at the intersection with Veterans Memorial Bridge. Motorists can check conditions on major roadways by visiting 511PA. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 700 traffic cameras. 511PA is also available through a smartphone application for iPhone and Android devices, by calling 5-1-1, or by following regional Twitter alerts accessible on the 511PA website.
