Travel ball opinion. Many of you that know me know that I am not anti-travel ball. I just want all involved to understand the advantages/ disadvantages to playing. Let me say this from the beginning.. the value of travel ball diminishes exponentially as the age of the player decreases. There is NO developmental benefit in the long term for pre-adolescence athletes to take part in travel ball. However, if your son enjoys it, and you have a coach with his head screwed on straight, it can be enjoyable. Travel ball becomes more beneficial the older the athlete gets. Basic reasoning is that playing against elite competition can help you understand your weaknesses in order to improve. MOST Youth travel ball is certainly not elite and most people are really fooling themselves if they think it is. And again, even if it is, it does NOTHING for the athletes long term success. So, in summary, please understand the value of playing travel ball and make a good decision for your child and family. I welcome any thoughts or comments.
