C 8 May Barranquilla - Violence and disorder in and around the northern coastal city of Barranquilla due to blackouts in recent days have left two people dead and 16 wounded. Congo Country Risk Level - High W 8 May US EMERGENCY MESSAGE: Brazzaville - US citizens advised that the Republic of the Congo is currently processing thousands of people through the Congo River port in Brazzaville. The port in Brazzaville has been the site of temporary holding camps for travelers crossing into Kinshasa for the past few weeks, and will possibly continue to do so for several more weeks. Ferries are routinely full, requiring travelers to spend multiple days and nights waiting at the port. There have been no reported instances of unrest, although conditions at the port remain tenuous. Haiti Country Risk Level - High C 7 May - 8 May Port-au-Prince - Haitian students protest over canceled classes. Latvia Country Risk Level - Low W 8 May - 9 May US SECURITY MESSAGE: - US citizens advised that large organized gatherings are scheduled to take place in Victory Park today (May 8th) and May 9th, from approximately 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Additionally, a small march from Strelnieku Square to Victory Monument is tentatively scheduled for May 9th at 6 p.m. Though we expect peaceful assemblies and adequate numbers of police will be on hand to monitor and safeguard the events, US citizens are urged to avoid the vicinity of Victory Park and Strelnieku Square when the events are occurring. Lebanon Country Risk Level - Extreme C 8 May - 14 May Beirut - Coalition of private and public sector workers planning to stage a series of demonstrations in the centre of the Beirut capital until May 14th, against the govts handling of a controversial bill on public sector salary increases. Moldova Country Risk Level - High W 9 May US SECURITY MESSAGE: Chisinau- US citizens advised that on May 9, large demonstrations are scheduled to take place in Chisinau’s city center to celebrate Victory Day. The demonstrations are expected to be peaceful however, US citizens are advised to avoid these areas due to large crowds, heavy traffic congestion and the possibility of tensions between the diverse parties involved. Norway Country Risk Level - Low C 12 May Countrywide - Approximately 69 major hotels in the largest Norwegian cities will be hit by strike by 2621 employees on May 12th, after a majority of union members in a referendum rejected the wage offers received through arbitration. Russian Federation Country Risk Level - High W 9 May US SECURITY MESSAGE: Moscow - US citizens advised that several street closures are planned in connection with preparations and rehearsals for the May 9 Victory Day parade. Moscow city traffic police advise that several streets and squares will be closed for parade rehearsals. C 8 May 5.2 earthquake109km S of Severo-Kurilsk. Serbia Country Risk Level - Medium C 19 May - 31 May Belgrade - The 2014 Pride Week will be held from May 19 to 31 and the protest march in the downtown should be staged on the last day of the event. Syria Country Risk Level - Extreme C 8 May Homs- Hundreds more people are being evacuated from their last rebel enclave inside the central Syrian city of Homs. Exercise caution if you are travelling in affected areas. Uganda Country Risk Level - High C 8 May CDN GOVT TRAVEL CAUTION: Kampala - Canadians advised that he U.S. Embassy in Kampala issued a security message providing the following information to their nationals: “the US Embassy has received information regarding a specific terrorist threat in Kampala. The threat information indicates a group of attackers may be preparing to strike places of worship in Kampala, particularly churches, including some that may be frequented by expatriates, in May or June. Ukraine Country Risk Level - Extreme W 9 May - 11 May US SECURITY MESSAGE: Countrywide - US citizens advised to avoid large public gatherings throughout Ukraine, including demonstrations, marches, parades and other events during the May 9 - 11 holiday weekend. Several groups have announced plans to hold marches or demonstrations in Kyiv and other cities. Media reports have also warned of possible provocations leading to violence at Victory Day events on May 9. United Kingdom Country Risk Level - Medium C 8 May London - Public Health England issues advice to passengers travelling on board a BA flight, that a passenger on the flight from Riyadh, which passed through Heathrow on April 24th, had been admitted to a US hospital with suspected case of the MERS respiratory virus. The infected man stopped at Heathrow before travelling on to Chicago. United States Country Risk Level - Medium C 8 May Los Angeles, CA - 3.3 earthquake 0km WNW of Cudahy. C 8 May Los Angeles, CA - A small earthquake was widely felt around the Los Angeles area but officials say there have been no immediate reports of serious damage. I 8 May Chicago, IL - Car catches fire in historic Lake Shore Drive high-rise. Residents self-evacuated after heavy smoke traveled from a car fire in the underground garage to the upper floors. C 8 May - 9 May Minnesota - St.James - Three tornadoes stuck Minnesota. One of the tornadoes hit near rural St. James, Minnesota. The tornado was reported to be a couple of hundred yards wide but it wasnt fully condensed. No injuries have been reported, nor was there any structural damage.
