Traveling The Damascus Road 11-21-2014 Mark 4:36 And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships. 37 And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. 38 And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? 39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. 40 And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? !! Only 35 More Serving God Days Left Before Christmas Day !! Friday is a special day of the week. It marks the end of the work week for most folks and the beginning of a few days of relaxation. Like so many others, I looked forward each week to Fridays. But the weekend never truly lived up to its promise of rest and relaxation! No, I didnt have to go to work for my employer but I was not able to enjoy the things I wanted to do either! There was grass to be mowed in the summer and snow removal in the winter: No fishing this weekend :( ! So unless your idea of relaxation and fun was doing all the home repairs and yard work; there was rarely any rest and relaxation to be had on the weekend! “Six days shall work be done: but the seventh day is the sabbath of rest, an holy convocation; ye shall do no work therein: it is the sabbath of the LORD in all your dwellings.” (Leviticus 23:3) Life, by worldly standards, is extremely frustrating! The prince of this world promises many things but never delivers exactly what is promised! Theres ALWAYS a catch or strings attached! Just like the promise of rest on the weekend. And even if you plan a weekend fishing it comes with strings: You get behind in your household chores and have to work all the harder for the next few weeks to catch up! “While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.” (2Peter 2:19) Then theres Gods way! God never promises a two day weekend! He does, however, allow one day of rest a week: Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: …” (Exodus 20:9,10) And on that day, while your not supposed to labor for an employer or business, there may still be chores to do at home: “And he said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out?” (Matthew 12:11) And even our Lord had chores to do on the sabbath: “ And the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because that Jesus had healed on the sabbath day …” (Luke 13:14) When to work, when to rest, and what we can and cant do on our day of rest! It can be quite confusing and a bit of a controversy in some ways. Isnt it a tremendous blessing and comfort to know that no matter how hectic or confusing life gets, we know the Master of EVERY STORM! “ He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still.” (Psalms 107:29) If you want some real rest from lifes storms; you dont have to wait for the weekend or the sabbath day to roll around. Just cozy up to our Lord: “…for my soul trusteth in thee: yea, in the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge, until these calamities be overpast.” (Psalms 57:1) Take refuge and rest in Him and let His sweet still small voice comfort you as He commands the storms of your life and says: !! Peace, be still !! The Lighter Side The Monkey One day the zoo-keeper noticed that the monkey was reading two books - the Bible and Darwins The Origin of Species. In surprise he asked the ape, Why are you reading both those books? Well, said the monkey, I just wanted to know if I was my brothers keeper or my keepers brother.
