Traveling with your pet? Check out these tips to make your trip enjoyable for you and them: Tips for Traveling By Car: Plan for Pets to Buckle Up-Pets that are allowed free reign can distract a driver, leading to an accident. Vehicle pet barriers, pet seat belts, pet car seats, and pet travel crates are all great ways to keep you and your pet safe when traveling. Make Frequent Stops-Always give your pet plenty of time for frequent bathroom and exercise breaks. Many travel service areas even have designated areas for walking your pet. Stay Hydrated-Make sure your pet has plenty of fresh water. If you think your pet might get car sick, bring some ice cubes with you. This is easier on your pet than large amounts of water. Dont Leave Your Pet Unattended-Never leave your pet alone in a parked car. With warmer weather, the temperature in your car can rise rapidly and become extremely dangerous for your furry friend. Make Them Comfortable-Remain calm. Pets can sense if you are hyped up and stressed. Introduce them slowly to the idea of spending time in the car and make sure they are comfortable with short rides before you take a long one. Tips for Traveling By Plane: DO NOT CHECK YOUR PET IN WITH YOUR LUGGAGE. Choose Only One Flight-Choose a direct flight. Changing planes may be stressful for your pet, especially if there isnt enough time for exercise and a bathroom break during the layover. BUT IF YOU DO- Consider the Breed-Breeds with short nasal passages are vulnerable to oxygen deprivation and heat stroke. Collar and ID-Make sure that your pet can be easily identified. Cut Down Nails- Trim your pets nails to protect against them getting caught in carrier doors, holes and other crevices. Temperature Extremes-Choose flights that accommodate temperature extremes, especially if your pet is traveling below the cabin.
