Travis Shaw named to Red Sox 40-man roster Washington High - TopicsExpress

Travis Shaw named to Red Sox 40-man roster Washington High School graduate Travis Shaw was placed on the Boston Red Sox 40-man roster Thursday. The following was taken from the Boston Red Sox website: Shaw has some of the best power in Bostons system. He compiled 29 doubles, two triples, 21 homers, 78 RBIs and 78 runs scored for Portland and Pawtucket. Against righties, Shaw was a force, producing a .926 OPS. Over the last three seasons, the left-handed-hitting Shaw has belted 56 homers, the most of any Boston Minor Leaguer. Shaw spoke to Record-Herald sports editor Chris Hoppes Thursday afternoon. This happened today, Shaw said. I got phone call from the Red Sox saying that they placed me on the 40-man roster. This was the first time they had to do it. This is usually the timeline it takes for a minor league player to get placed on the 40-man roster, so, this was kind of a good day, Shaw said. The way the 40-man roster works, you can not get called up to the major leagues unless you are on the 40-man roster, Shaw said. I would say I will probably have to start the (2015) season in Pawtucket (Bostons AAA affiliate) again, but, at any point during the season I can get called up to the major leagues without them having to make a counter roster move. Shaw will be at the Red Sox major league spring training camp in Ft. Myers, Florida in February. Congratulations and continued best of luck to Travis Shaw.
