Treasured Memories from our Sporting Past “Sporting Snippets” - TopicsExpress

Treasured Memories from our Sporting Past “Sporting Snippets” continues the trip down memory lane to pick out some of the many instances of sporting success which have piled up in the Ards Borough down the years. The Ards district has truly been a harbour into which the ship of outstanding sporting achievement has often docked and, as we again sound out an appeal that these Treasured Memories from our Sporting Past should be safeguarded in a public display of memorabilia, we note that our TOPIC this week clearly shows that there is a great groundswell of opinion which agrees with this objective. We return to FOOTBALL this week as we take a look at the IFA Intermediate cup competition. This very prestigious Tournament was first played in the 1892 - 1893 season. In spite of the fact that there have been 119 Finals, the Trophy has only once been brought to the Ards Borough. That was in 1971 when Ards 2nds won the Cup. That success must be worthy of being given a due place in a permanent public display of sporting achievement. Memories from yesterday inspire the efforts of today and erect a citadel of dreams for tomorrow.
