Treat indigestion the Ayurveda way! Can you recall the everyday trauma we face due to indigestion? Or that awkward situation when we want to burp so badly while in a meeting? Burping is our body’s way of crying out for help. Given our current lifestyles, the chances are bare minimum that we would even hear those cries, forget about attending to them. There is an interesting quote in Ayurveda that reads “To eat is human, but to digest is divine”. Ayurveda pays tremendous attention to the quality and purity of food, simply because it’s an important component through which our tissues are created. A sacred fire burning in our system that is often referred to as Agni; the metabolic fire or the digestive fire, then initiates a metabolic process which converts our food into body tissues. A smooth metabolic process is quintessential for us to be able to digest our food. Sans that, indigestion can plague our physical and mental health. As per the Ayurvedic way, there are a few simple steps that can be followed to maintain a smooth metabolic process: 1. Eat food that is clean, healthy, organic and natural. 2. Foods such as fruits, and vegetables that contain fiber, anti-oxidants should be consumed as they help in digestion process. 3. Eat recyclable food; the body should know how to get rid of the waste. 4. Eat according to seasons: light food during summer, slightly heavy during winter. 5. Avoid processed, frozen or canned food as it is deprived of natural intelligence. And most importantly, STOP over-eating and pay attention to what/how/how much you eat.
