Tree Artisan - CITY OF DETROIT EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY (TO ESTABLISH A LIST) SALARY: $12.90 - $14.38 Hourly OPENING DATE: 10/27/14 CLOSING DATE: 11/05/14 11:59 PM DESCRIPTION: Under general supervision, performs work involved in the pruning, removing, spraying, cultivating and general care of trees and shrubs in streets, municipal parks and parkways, and in general landscape work. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: 1. Prunes and removes trees using roping and rigging techniques. 2. Operates and performs routine maintenance of chainsaws. 3. Sprays trees, shrubs, weeds and fence lines, as required. 4. Removes fallen trees and branches in response to “storm - call” emergencies. 5. Operates trucks or other automotive equipment used in forestry or landscape work, as required. 6. Performs duties in accordance with Departmental safety procedures including, but not limited to, the utilization of designated personal protective equipment MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Completion of two years of high school. High school graduation or GED preferred. One year of experience in tree and shrub removal and pruning, including roping and rigging, aerial lift operation, chipper and stump grinder operation. Candidates considered for placement in this classification may be subject to a Criminal Background Investigation based on the requirements of the position. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: Evaluation Process 1. Written Examination: 50% Maximum-32.5% Minimum. 2. Evaluation of Training, Experience and Personal Qualification: 50% Maximum – 32.5% Minimum. 3. Total: 100% Maximum – 65% Minimum. 4. Military Service: 1% Minimum to 15% Maximum 5. Domicile Credit: 15 points
