Tree. We live too much by comparison. Comparison betwixt one - TopicsExpress

Tree. We live too much by comparison. Comparison betwixt one another. Comparison betwixt a tree and every other tree you had ever seen. What is a tree? When was the last time that you saw a tree AS a Tree? By its self: an Individual. Glorious in its willful sprouting branches, its quivering leaves, devoid of the temptation to subsume it to the Human, calling its leaves hair and its branches arms? That is fine, though: except that one forgets that no two trees are the same. There is no such thing as a tree. How could one word describe them all? We are do accustomed to Mass Production that we live in Mass Reduction. At least to look upon a row-grove of trees as though they were all posts in a fence is enough, for the depth of such an image cuts into the width of a passing, scanning Glance and lends dimension to a flat perception that had been taken for Truth simply because no alternative appeared immanent. And if then with that breath of separation we can breathe out and see the trees kinship to us, will it not reveal more to us of our own Nature(s), never a fixed object of knowledge or control, then had we simply rushed in to mate with it and become One with it? What courage is required not to do so but, if it can be said more than jokingly, to emulate IT, growing with poise, bark, fortitude, and patience? DM.a.a.
