Tree trimming crews contracted by DTE Energy will be in Southfield beginning the week of October 20 to trim trees and other vegetation away from power lines in an effort to reduce power outages. This is an enhanced program designed to reduce the number of power outages customers are experiencing. Here are the main differences between this and our past tree trimming work: This work will only be on the overhead portion of our equipment. We will not be doing anything different below the power lines than we have done in the past. That this program focuses on expanding the cleared corridor to our legal Right of Way and to allow no overhang (see example above). If trees located underneath the power lines are the type that we know consistently grow into the lines, causing power outages, these trees will be removed. While we are making every effort to work with local communities, we will no longer be asking customer permission prior to removal of problem trees.
