Trevors Last Pardon Pt 24 John paced back and forth through the living room of his home. He tried to figure out where hed went wrong with Chloe. Maybe hed rushed into things too quickly. Maybe he should have never mentioned marriage. Of course. What a stupid thing to do. Theyd known each other less than a month, and hed mentioned marriage already. No wonder shed left running. He sighed heavily. Chloe, please come back, he pleaded over her voicemail. If you dont want to talk about marriage or whatever, Ill never mention it again. Just please stay in my life. Please call me back. I love you. He was almost afraid to say the words, but it was what he felt. Johnny boy, his mother called out, tauntingly. John sighed. This was the last way hed wanted to spend a Saturday night. What mother? He snapped. Come see mommy. Her voice was raspy and frightening. He could tell that she was up to no good. He refused to let her find out that Chloe wouldnt even talk to him. Hed let her think that everything was alright. He wouldnt hear her tell him how worthless he was, how no one would ever want him. Of course it was the truth, but John knew that his mother was the problem. She was the reason no one would ever stay with him. She had destroyed him. He would never be fit for anyone. Im going out, John snapped. You never spend any time with me, she groaned. Its that girl, isnt it? Youll like her, mother, he reminded her. Shes just like you. He didnt know if he would ever see her again, but if he did, he would need his mothers approval. If his mother didnt like her, they would never have a life together, because she would never leave them alone.
