Tribe Core at Anytime Fitness Today was the official start of the core – last week was the trial. So day one of core after the warm up which in itself is a workout: Walking lunges, airplanes, pushups and prone planks – 30 seconds each we took a test. This test was a progression of Plank, Right plank, Reverse plank and Left plank going from 10, 20, 30, 40 up to 50 seconds: The idea is to move from one exercise to the next without stopping. Tim who is a fitness instructor made it through the entire round. Sarah lasted 40 seconds and I tapped out at 30 seconds. The idea is by the end of six weeks is to last for the entire 50 seconds or a minute each. believe it not then the workout started with four exercises going for 60 seconds on one and then moving to the next. For those of you who read my review of Tribe core – last week know the reason I am taking this class is to strengthen my core. After losing 248lbs some 7 years ago I began on journey to stay fit. I have to tell you like most people starting out I ignored my core muscles which are stabilizers. A strong core allows you to have good posture and balance so that you can perform daily activities without getting hurt. Pretty much any motion your body does includes the core muscles. If your core is not flexible and is weak, everyday activities become increasingly difficult to complete. This of course increases your chances of becoming injured. Another important concept to note is that most people are so stuck on getting their abs well-toned; they neglect to strengthen other core muscles, such as the back and shoulders. According to the American Council on Exercise, most people have a discrepancy between the strength of their lower back and abs. An imbalance in strength distribution can be just as problematic as having weak muscles. Due to the involvement in balance and stability, which are two necessary components of efficient movement; core strengthening is commonly used in rehabilitation programs. A strong core has also been shown to result in improvements of pain scores in individuals experiencing lower back issues. The other reason is I am training for the half marathon portion of the Cayman Islands Marathon on 1 Dec and strong core muscles also help with running. So the tribe core came at a perfect time for me. Couple of weeks ago I thought about telling those of you that ski to train on Bosu ball. I was thinking too small – tribe core would be ideal to get you all in shape for the slopes. Bye for now If you are interested in health please view my facebook page For the Health of it Cayman Islands.
