Tribune Taraba SSG, 5 commissioners, 2 special advisers sacked · Written by Celestine Ihejirika-Jalingo · Thursday, 11 July 2013 05:08 The Secretary to the Taraba State Government, Ambassador Emmanuel Njiwah, was among the list of eight key government functionaries that were removed from office on Tuesday by the state Acting governor, Alhaji Garba Umar. The commissioners are Anthony Jellason, Ministry of Agriculture; Rebo Usman, Water Resources and Rural Development; Yakubu Agbaizo, Education; Jonah Agyo, Works and the only female commissioner, Charity Green, Women Affairs and Child Development. Also affected were two special advisers, Joshua Augustine of Revenue Matters and Manasseh D. Kaura, Border Development. However, the Commissioner for Health, Mustapha Hammangabdo, was said to have tendered his resignation, which has since been accepted by the acting governor. In a press release signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the acting governor, Mr Kefas Sule, a copy of which was made available to the Nigerian Tribune in Jalingo, the affected government functionaries were removed following a resolution passed at the state House of Assembly on Monday, 8th July. According to the release, they were all indicted by the assembly for failing to properly account for the N400 million, Federal Government intervention fund for the 2012 flood disaster in the state. It further said that the assembly established that the flood disaster in the state was politicised, mismanaged and reduce to an avenue where privileged persons who were involved in the management of the fund played roles which seems to undermine the trust of their office, saying in spite of that, his Excellency governor Danbaba Suntai had cursed anybody who intended to misappropriate the N400 Million flood disaster grant to the state, the release stated. It further said the affected functionaries are to individually refund the various sums of money misappropriated by them or face prosecution, and directed the affected key functionaries to hand over office to their permanent secretaries or most senior officers in the ministries, department or agencies with immediate affect, said in the release. It would be recalled that on Monday 8th July the assembly ad-hoc committee on flood disaster headed by the deputy speaker/chairman Honorable Tanko Adamu Maikarfi investigation report had indicted key government officials for allegedly misappropriated the sum of N400 Million grant meant for flood victims in the state.
