Tributes To Dumbarton Man Michael Slaven At Parkhead This Young Bhoy Who Left Home To Go Out With Mates Never To Return :( HH ~liz~ Tributes to Dumbarton man Michael Slaven at Parkhead Sep 13 2013 by Lorraine Waddell, Lennox Herald A special tribute was paid to Michael Slaven as his heroes Celtic played in a charity match at the weekend. An image displayed on the big screens at Parkhead during the Stiliyan Petrov fundraising match on Sunday showed a picture of the 23-year-old along with the words “thank you for being you”. Michael went missing after being out with friends at Sugar Cube nightclub in Glasgow a week past on Thursday and never returned home to Gooseholm Crescent in Dumbarton. A full-scale search was launched to find him and both Facebook and Twitter were flooded with appeals. Celtic legend John Hartson as well as former player Gary Hooper and members of the current squad Charlie Mulgrew and Joe Ledley retweeted a message while the search was on for Michael at the start of last week. But a body believed to be Michael was pulled out of the River Clyde in Glasgow on Thursday morning. Since then, friends and relatives of the former Our Lady and St Patrick’s pupil have taken to Facebook to pay tribute to him, including cousin Gerard Mahoney who posted last Thursday: “Tonight, I found myself sitting on the grass next to the River Clyde holding a bouquet of flowers and writing a card for my little cousin, Michael, saying goodbye forever. “There aren’t enough words to describe what an amazing man he is and how big the hole he has left behind is. “I’m writing this on Facebook because I want people to know how much this guy meant to us all. “Everybody involved in the search, you are all amazing. “You see a lot of these ‘need to get out of this dump’ statuses on Facebook, but for anyone who writes such things, I’ll point you in the direction of pictures from yesterday. “250 people, a lot of them from Dumbarton and Balloch, searched for one guy, people who never knew him, people who loved him. We even had people from further afield. If I’ve learned anything from the past week, it’s that people can be amazing. Thanks everyone. It won’t be forgotten.” And close friend David Kennedy said: “Usually when someone is taken from us, you tend to roll your eyes when you hear the usual rubbish: “he was a great guy”, “he was a kind guy”, “had his life ahead of him”, “such a lovely, caring person”, no matter how much of an eejit they were. However, I know, his parents know, his brother and sisters know, every one of his friends knows, that with Michael it is actually true. “He was just “an amazing son, brother, mate.. person”. “I’m sure I speak for every one of us; Michael Slaven, it’s been a bloody pleasure. Sleep tight.”
