Tried this experiment at home today and it worked great! One of the very best object lessons I have ever seen for explaining what the Bible says about the forgiveness of sins through faith in the completed work of Jesus Christ. Here are the ratios I used for each cup of liquid: CUP #1 “YOU”: 1/2 cup of spring water CUP #2 “SIN: 1/8 cup of spring water + 1/8 cup of iodine [Got an 8 ounce bottle of 10% povidone-iodine solution from the band-aid row at Walmart for about $3] CUP #3 “CHRIST”: 1/4 cup unconcentrated bleach + 1/4 cup spring water I think these would be great points to make with each pour, and I would use these Bible verses to go along with the visual changes that take place with each pour: POUR #1 “SIN” into “YOU” - Every person is a sinner. Romans 3:23 For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God Romans 3:10 As it is written: There is none righteous, no, not one. POUR #2 “CHRIST” into the sinful “YOU” - Christ forgives and cleanses us if we confess our sins to Him. 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Psalm 51:2 Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. Isaiah 1:18 COME NOW, AND LET US REASON TOGETHER, saith the Lord: THOUGH YOUR SINS BE AS SCARLET, THEY SHALL BE MADE WHITE AS SNOW. 1 John 1:7 The blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. POUR #3 “SIN” into “CHRIST” - Unlike us, Christ is sinless and perfectly holy. 1 John 3:5 You know that He appeared in order to take away sins; in Him there is no sin. 2 Cor. 5:21 He made Him Who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. Hebrews 4:15 For we do not have a High Priest Who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but One Who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet is without sin. POUR #4 “CHRIST” into “SIN” - Christ is the only Savior appointed by God for men to receive forgiveness and cleansing of their sins. John 1:29 The next day John saw Jesus coming to him and said, “Behold the Lamb of God, Who takes away the sin of the world!” 1 John 2:2 And He is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world. Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other, for these is no other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved. John 4:14 And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Savior of the world. John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. To be saved, people must first confess their sins, and believe that Jesus Christ died in their place and took the punishment that should have been theirs upon Himself, and then they must ask Him for the free gift of salvation that He offers to each repentant sinner who believes in Him.
