Trigger warning, so read on only if you want to. And sorry because this is really long! So... Last winter, my depression, which Ive struggled with for years now, was steadily getting worse. I was thinking about suicide every day, to the point where I would walk around my house cataloging what pills we had in case some combination of them might work. It got to the point where I admitted myself to a very well-known mental hospital. I ended up staying there for seven weeks. While I was there, I got to leave for a day to attend my areas Latin convention. I got to see my fellow board members and classy classicist friends, and be surrounded by love and support. It meant so much to me. When I was preparing to leave the hospital, I was reworking my schedule to avoid too much makeup work. I dropped several classes, but when my Latin teacher asked if I was going to drop Latin, the answer was NO! I was totally appalled at the idea. When I left the hospital, my incredibly supportive Latin club let me regain my position as Consul, and I focused a lot on my JCL duties and tests. I wanted to thank all of you for being a part of this amazing and supportive organization. In addition, Ive already thanked Ruiqi personally, but I just wanted to let you all know how amazing the theme she chose for convention is: tu ne cede malis, sed contra audentior ito. Yield not to misfortunes, but advance all the more boldly against them. Shes wonderful, and all of you are wonderful. You have been my family for the past for years, and Im so grateful.
