Trinamool Chairperson addresses a rally in New Delhi. March 12, 2014 Watch Video : youtu.be/zTNBuR9QHMM ================================= Trinamool Congress Chairperson Ms. Mamata Banerjee addressed a rally in New Delhi at the Ramlila Maidan earlier today. Speaking on the occassion, the Trinamool Chairperson asked people to bring about a change of regime in the Centre and put an end to the syndicate of Congress and BJP. She made a strong case for a Federal Front Government. Excerpts from the Chairperson`s speech: Friends, brothers and sisters and everybody present here, I welcome you all. Annaji wished that this symbolic rally should be organized at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi and invited me to speak, hence I have come here to address his rally. This is a social rally, not a political one. I came here despite pressing engagements in Kolkata because of Annaji`s request. I am happy you could make it here despite the scorching sun on a weekday. Unlike other parties, we did not bring any people from outside. We could have brought people from Bengal in trains but we did not want that. My life has been one of struggles. I am ready to face many more. A lot of constipations are hatching up. Let it be Congress, BJP or the CPI(M ), the political parties hardly work for the people. I am not afraid of them. I am ready to fight for the sake of people alone. I will continue the fight that I started long ago. I am confident and do believe that people are with me. People repose their faith in leaders who can fulfill their promises. I can give my life but never run away from the commitments made by me. We will organise rallies in Gujarat, UP, Haryana, Bihar, Jharkhand, Tripura, Assam and if needed in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab and South India. Biswajeet Chatterjee, the veteran actor, has agreed to contest on Trinamool ticket. Whatever we do, we do it from our heart. We do not make fake promises before elections and then sleep over our commitments after polls. Rich parties can spends lakhs for election campaigning. We cannot do so. We are a poor party. But, what we can do is keep our promises. No other political party can do this. When we were with UPA, we stuck to our manifesto. When the Central Govt broke the trust of the people, we left the UPA. We cannot betray people on the promises we made. The UPA Govt takes Rs 70,000 crores from our treasury as instalments for the debt incurred by the Left Front Govt in the last 34 years. In spite of that, we have worked for the people. BJP says that it will come to power. How? Every state is different and has their own local issues. Can any state carry out development like we do, despite the huge financial crunch? The leader of Gujarat leader has a communal face. Do you know, the rate of of child deaths in Gujarat is 41%. If Gujarat is so developed, why is the figure so high there? In WB it is only 32%. Dropout rate in schools of Maharashtra is 1.7%. Why is it 2.1% in Gujarat? Some parties are trying to form a Third Front. It is a tired front. Congress and BJP have formed a syndicate in Parliament to not let other parties have a voice. The Congress and BJP can come together to sell the country also. We have seen them together in Parliament not letting others to even bring amendments. They do not have any time for common people. We give rice to 3.2 crore people in West Bengal at Rs 2/kg every month. We gave cycles to 2 lakh girls, scholarships to 7 lakh minority students and 77 lakh people belonging to SC/ST categories. The growth rate of Bengal`s GSDP is 7.71% while the national average is 4.9%. Even on the economic front, we are ahead of the Central Govt. You need a vision to run a country. Feudal landlord mindset does not help. You need to connect to the people. I do not want power for myself. I want people to have the power. If we come to power, we will not allow the Govt to bulldoze the voice of the people. We will not allow forcible acquisition of land. Earlier the Bengal Govt was called load-shedding govt. Now there are hardly any power cuts. We have formed a power bank. We are also reducing price of power for our consumers, not by giving subsidies but through better management. We do not make false promises to people. Water is free in Bengal. We don`t give one or two buckets of free water. We are making a talent bank for the youth. We are working towards bringing down dropout rate in schools by framing up scholarship schemes. We registered 9 lakh girl children for financial assistance. We have given second language status to Urdu, Punjabi, Nepali, Santhali. Chhat puja is a state holiday in Bengal. So is Shab-e-barat and Guru Nanak`s birthday. We respect all cultures and traditions. Congress and BJP work for each other`s benefits, they do not work for the country. As long as I am alive, I will work for people. I just want UPA to go. But we do not want a party of riots in power. If you challenge the Congress, they unleash the CBI and ED and IT department behind you. They stay in power through their blackmail tactics. We want a Federal Front that will make the states stronger. I started with Kolkata, but I can start from anywhere. Punjab, Delhi, Bihar - all are my states. We have worked for the people, and will continue doing so. If we have to shake Delhi, we need people`s support. Thank you all for coming for the rally.
