Trinamool Congress today staged a major demonstration to protest the arrest of state Transport Minister, Madan Mitra, by the Central Bureau of Investigation. The protest rally started at 1 PM at the base of the statue of legendary footballer Gostho Pal in Maidan area. Seeveral prominent sportspersons were present on the dais. A sea of humanity thronged the venue. National President of Trinamool Youth Congress, who walked in todays protest march, said, BJP knows they cannot fight TMC politically. They are using CBI to counter us. Common people have hit the streets today to protest against the politics of vendetta by BJP. Trinamool Chairperson and West Bengal Chief Minister, Ms Mamata Banerjee attended the protest rally. She warned those in power in Delhi not to cross their limits. She said TMC will hit the streets in protest against BJPs vindictive politics. Party MPs will also protest in Parliament, she added. Highlights of her speech: I am thankful to all the veteran sports persons who have come here today. Time does not wait for anyone. We have to act as per the need of the hour. I must tell those who are in power - Stay within your limits or you will face the music. Danga gurus have come to power by fighting elections using money power. Where did the money come from? They are trying to destroy the sports infrastructure in Bengal. They are targeting iconic football clubs. So many players played under sponsorship of Sahara. Did they know Sahara was a chit fund company? Why are they targeting players for being sponsored by chit funds? Why are they shielding the chit fund owners? Sarada was formed during CPM rule. What was CBI during Singur-Nandigram? Has CBI caught the people who killed Tapasi Malik? Have they caught the perpetrators of Netai violence? What I say is always distorted by some media houses. Some people think they can counter us by using CBI as political tool. One BJP leader came to Kolkata and warned they will arrest Madan in 2014, Mukul in 2015 and Mamata in 2016. What audacity. Kalidas axed the branch of the tree he was sitting on. Those in power in Delhi are doing the same. Governments come and go, democracy remains forever. Those in power in Delhi must remember that. The man who was arrested and was in jail for 60 days is pointing fingers at us. BJP is playing politics of vindictiveness. We did not arrest a single CPM leader after coming to power. Chit funds are under the jurisdiction of Centre. Why did they sit over our anti-chit fund law for so long? We returned money to 5 lakh people. How many people got money after CBI took over. CPM has become the frontal organization of BJP. People of Bengal will not tolerate insult. They are arrogant because they are in power. Congress is finished because of their mistakes. CPM was uprooted from power for arrogance. BJP will meet same fate. TMC MPs will protest in Parliament from Monday against BJPs vendetta politics. CBI has lost all credentials. They have become His Masters Voice. A red diary was obtained after raiding Sahara office. It had several big names! Empty vessels sound much. There are images of the PM with Sahara Chief. Should we arrest the PM? There are images of several CPM leaders with chit fund owners. If an image is a proof of criminal conspiracy, then PM should be arrested for Sahara Scam. Madan Mitra will be the Transport and Sports Minister. For the time being I will oversee the department. Culture and sports in Bengal are under threat. Mohunbagan-East Bengal is under threat. It is time to hit the streets. I ask the sports persons to hit the streets. Our support is with you.
