Trinidad and Tobago has been in a governance crisis since 1982, on - TopicsExpress

Trinidad and Tobago has been in a governance crisis since 1982, on the heels of the passing of the first Prime Minister and just prior to us going to the IMF. I say this for two reasons. On neither occasion, two critical junctures in the life of the country, and since then have our so-called leaders shown courage and led by example and reached across the aisle. Policies and national plans are partisan and are 5 year wish lists, to be later shelved and monies spent to re-brand and re-invent the wheel. No long-term, sustained multi-party vision for the country has ever been brokered and formulated. Economic diversification, crime, youth delinquency, transport, climate change, under-employment, migration etc. all significant challenges facing the country are not short-term agenda items. When will we ever look past foolish eat ah food, race, party politics and form serious, visionary, long-term, inclusive development agendas for our country? When?
