Trinidad and Tobago players Denesh Ramdin, Darren Bravo, Lendl Simmons, Ravi Rampaul and Samuel Badree are among the top level West Indies players named in the draft for the inaugural Caribbean Premier League which will run from July 30 to August 24. At a press conference in Barbados on Thursday, the remaining foreign players who will take part in the Twenty20 competition were also announced. They include former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik, former New Zealand skipper Daniel Vettori, Australian Shaun Marsh, Albie Morkel of South Africa and Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib al Hasan. The draft will take place on June 5 in Jamaica, and explaining how it will be conducted, CPL operations manager Carlisle Powell said each team will have a selection committee consisting of the head coach, assistant coach, the West Indies franchise player and the international franchise player, and that together, these four members of the team selection committee will formalise their picks for each round going into the official draft. There are three pools of players – A, B and C. Pool A players are those who have played international cricket, and are considered top players based on their current form. Ramdin, Simmons, Rampaul, Darren Bravo and Badree are in this pool. Pool B will contain players who play mostly regional cricket although they may have also played at the international level. Pool C consists of developing, talented Under-23 players from across the region. The six West Indies franchise players are Chris Gayle, Marlon Samuels, Dwayne Bravo, Sunil Narine, Kieron Pollard and Darren Sammy.
