Trinity Valley School will produce Fort Worths first production of Next to Normal April 24-27 in its Black Box Theater. This production of the Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical will be the shows debut in Tarrant County. Dealing with topics such as depression, drug abuse, and dysfunctional family dynamics, the rock musical will be directed and performed entirely by high school students. Next to Normal tells the story of a mothers mental illness and its effects on her family. It features music by Tom Kitt and book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey. It won three Tony Awards and became the eighth musical in history to win the Pulitzer Prize for drama in 2010. TVS student Hana Smith is directing the show as her senior project. The assistant director is fellow-senior Lucy Gamades, and sophomore Charlie H. Ray is the music director. Kate Kowalski leads the cast as Diana Goodman. Chris Miller plays Dan Goodman, Charlie H. Ray plays Gabe Goodman, Maggie Jorgenson plays Natalie Goodman. Additional cast members include Chris Distler as Henry, Julianna Keller as Dr. Madden and Nick Parkinson as Dr. Fine. Performance are Thursday, April 24, Friday, April 25, and Saturday, April 26 at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, April 27 there will be a matinee at 3:00 p.m. Tickets may be reserved by emailing [email protected].
